Jack is now (well, has been for over a month) officially walking. He still crawls occasionally, but mostly he walks. Recently he's started walking very quickly, but only sometimes, and never for very long, as it usually ends with him falling: too much forward momentum. But I don't think it will be long before he masters the jog, though (thankfully) legitimate running is probably further in the future.
Ella is playing soccer, on an actual team in an actual league. She's not that good - most of them aren't, really - but she loves it. And she scored her first goal last week. She's also on a bit of a fossil kick - she went on a dig in the backyard, which lasted 45 minutes or so, until she got tired of not finding anything. That setback hasn't diminished her interest in the subject, though, which is good.
Lorna is still at the funeral home; she works about five hours in the evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which means I put the kids to bed those days (and Mondays and Wednesdays, when she's at church doing musical things). She's also started doing the weekly deposits and monthly bills for the church, which doesn't take much time and pays pretty well for her time.
In case you haven't yet heard the news, I've been offered (and have officially accepted) a spot in the Ph.D program in the English department at SMU. It comes with a nice stipend, and (even better) we won't have to move, which makes everyone happy - except Elanor, who wants to move to another house in Sherman, one with two stories, so she can have an upstairs bedroom.
